Diane Prusank began teaching in the Department of Communication at Westfield State University in the fall of 2008. Prior to coming to Westfield, Prusank worked as both a faculty member and an administrator at the University of Hartford. Prusank has taught courses such as Introduction to Mass Communication, Interpersonal Communication, Research Methods, Communication Theory and Family Communication.

Prusank's research connects the subdisciplines of interpersonal and mass communication by looking at the coverage of relationships in the popular media. She has presented her work at both regional and national conferences and published in both academic journals and books. Her most recent publication "Masculinities in teen magazines: The good, the bad and the ugly" appeared in the Journal of MenĂ­s Studies. Currently, Prusank serves on the editorial board of Communication Quarterly and is working with colleagues on a study of parenting practices in popular magazines targeted to African Americans as well as an individual research project on the parenting advice of journalist Dorothy Barclay, which appeared in the New York Times during the 1950s and 1960s.

Prusank has a B.S. and M.S. in communication from Illinois State University and a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Oklahoma.
